As it is a responsibility of every mother to fully breastfeed their children for normal growth and development, but the policy was different to me because to my ideology I thought it will make me old fashioned.
In September 2003, God blessed us with our first baby. However our excitement was short-lived. I got a job up country on the very day of delivering, so I was rushed to the airport before midnight.
As soon as I arrived, I started working and left the baby with the grandmother on bottle feeding. After 3 months, my baby was diagnosed with a condition that required her to receive photo therapy and it was discovered that for her to recover quickly, she had to breastfeed a lot, but my boss could not allow babies at work.
When I got some money, I returned back to breastfeed my baby. However, because she had got used to the bottle, she did not know how to suckle the breast. My inverted nipples made matters worse; I needed to bond with my baby and on the other hand afraid of the challenges that came with bottle feeding. With all that in my minds, I became more determined than ever to get her on breast feeding.
Finally my efforts paid off and at 9 months, my baby suckled my breast up to 20 months. She is now a healthy girl any one could admire.
“In spite of the many proposals mothers today give about breastfeeding, but scientific research shows that breast feeding is the best gift a mother could ever give her baby so as to nurture a healthy generation”.
